At the Leichhardt physio practice we use Clinical Pilates and evidence based exercise principles to both treat and prevent injuries. Muscles can become short and tight, whilst others can become weak or long or poorly controlled due to bad postural habits. It's often not until pain or injury occurs that we realise there is a problem. The Pilates method aims to strengthen your core, build muscle tone and increase body awareness with good bio mechanical control.
Muscle imbalances that cause pain often develop due to:
poor posture
adoption of poor working postures
sporting injuries
repetitive strain on structures of the body
degenerative conditions
It is now thought that correct movement patterns become automatic through repetition. Concentrating on muscle control, rather than weights or strength training, can expedite the use of the core (postural) musculature and help correct muscle imbalances that cause pain. At our Leichhardt clinic we use a Pilates tower reformer in conjunction with functional exercises specific to you.
